Things we all should know ....

MEADOWLARK WOMEN’S GOLF CLUB

LOCAL RULES

        USGA RULES govern all play.

        PUTT OUT on TEMPORARY GREENS

PLAY from white tees unless otherwise designated by Tournament Chair.

WATER HAZARDS:   All water hazards are played as lateral hazards.  The bridge, piling and cement are part of the hazards.

OUT OF BOUNDS:   O.B. include all perimeter fences, all private yards which border the course, the fence between tee area on #1 and parking lot, driving range fences on #7, #8 and  #9, the practice putting area behind the 9th green and the maintenance yard on #12, #17 and #18.

Note:  On holes #7, #8, #9 if ball lies within the perimeter of the outside measurement of the poles, it is O.B.

STAKED TREES:  One club length from drip line (overhang), no nearer hole.

OBSTRUCTION:  If a ball hits the telephone wires on hole #12, the ball must be replayed, no penalty.

OBSTRUCTION:  Protective screens on #1 (back of green), #2 (along Graham), between #5 green and #6 tee box, #7 (back of green), #8 tee box and between #17 green and #18 tee box. Closest relief, one club length, no nearer the hole - no penalty.

FLOWER BEDS are played as immovable obstructions:  Closest relief, one club length, no nearer the hole.  (Rule 24.2 (b). No Penalty.

EDGING GROOVES ON PUTTING GREEN: “If a ball lies on an edging groove around a putting green, the player may, without penalty, lift the ball, clean it and place it out of the groove in the nearest position to where it lay, whether on or off the green which is not nearer the hole”.  (Rule 33-8/24)

WINTER RULES:  Through the green, ball may be lifted, cleaned and placed within six inches of its original lie, no nearer the hole.

CELL PHONES are prohibited on the golf course except for emergencies.

DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES:  For all play at Meadowlark, a player may obtain information by using a device that measures distance only.  However, if during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect her play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.

ETIQUETTE AND GOLF SUGGESTIONS

Rules keep the game fair for everyone.  If in doubt, consult your Rule Book.  It is up to the player to know the rules.          Local Rules are also posted on the Bulletin Board.

On the first tee, identify the ball you will use.  An identification mark is advisable.

Do not stand behind or in front of a player making a shot or putt.  Do not talk while another player is hitting a shot.  For your own safety, do not go ahead of a player making a shot.

Observe where players have marked their balls; do not stand or walk on that line.

Take your turn attending and replacing the flagstick.  Do not allow your shadow to fall across a player’s line.

Repair ball marks on greens.  Replace or repair divots on the fairway with sand provided on carts.  Rake bunkers after your shot.

When on the green, take golf equipment to area nearest the next tee.  DO NOT BLOCK ENTRANCE TO THE GREEN.

After putting out, group should leave the green immediately, recording scores at the next tee box.
You must keep up with the group ahead.  If you get behind and are unable to regain your position you must allow the group behind to play through.

When it is your turn to hit, BE READY!  Limit your time per shot to 45 seconds.

Meadowlark has been informally pace-rated at 3 hrs., 48 min. per foursome with a gross score average of 100 per player.  If each player in a foursome wastes just one minute each hole, this adds up to one hour and twenty minutes extra over 18 holes!

ON THE GOLF COURSE , THE FIRST PRIORITY IS GOLF; THE SOCIAL HOUR COMES LATER IN THE CLUBHOUSE!

TO ASSURE PACE RATED PLAY

A group is determined to be out of position (slow – behind – delaying play) if:

  1. It reaches the tee of a par-3 hole and the preceding group is on the next tee (green is open)
  2. It reaches the tee of a par-4 hole when the preceding group is in the area of the putting green
  3. It reaches the tee of a par-5 hole when the preceding group is within 150 to 200 yards of the green

It is each individual player’s responsibility to warn slow players to catch up.  If a slow player/foursome fails to get back into position (with respect to the above 3 items), then it will be mandatory for that group to skip all holes that are open.  This is the recommended way to keep up with the group directly in front.

Be ready to golf, line up putts while others are putting, take extra clubs for the inevitable, have an extra ball in your pocket, (take a provisional shot if you’re not sure where it landed … no one saw your shot, you have no idea where it went, you didn’t see it fall out of the tree).

Put your clubs in your bag as you walk, or, if in a cart, drive holding your clubs to your next shot and put them back in your bag while deciding which club to use for the next shot.
